CampusGrid Privacy Policy

1. Overview
CampusGrid ("we," "our," or "the app") is a mobile application for college and university students. It helps users manage class schedules, plan their days with custom day tags, rate professors, buy and sell notes and textbooks, message connected classmates, and use Smart Commute to check live traffic before heading to class. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, and the choices available to you. By using CampusGrid you agree to the practices described here.
2. Data We Collect
Account & Profile Data
- Name, email address, school, major, academic year, profile photo, and profile color.
- Collected at sign-up and onboarding; required to use the app.
Academic & Schedule Data
- Courses, class times, building locations, and course colors.
- Day tags, personal notes, linked classes, and custom event times.
- Group events and participation status.
Social & Messaging Data
- Classmate connection requests and accepted connections.
- Direct messages, images, and videos sent between connected users.
- Messages are stored to support conversation history within the app.
Marketplace Data
- Notes and textbook listings including titles, prices, descriptions, and listing photos.
- No payment information is collected. All transactions occur outside the app.
Professor Rating Data
- Quality and difficulty ratings and written comments submitted by users about professors.
- Ratings are associated with the submitting user's account for moderation purposes.
Location & Commute Data
- Home address entered by the user for the Smart Commute feature, stored in the user's profile to calculate commute time to campus.
- Device GPS coordinates (foreground only) read when the Commute tab is active to calculate live travel time. GPS coordinates are not stored.
Device & Technical Data
- Push notification token (only when the user opts in to notifications).
- App version, OS version, and crash diagnostic data for reliability and bug fixing.
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA) are collected or used.
3. Device Permissions

4. How We Use Information
- To create and maintain user accounts and school association.
- To display class schedules, day tags, events, and commute information.
- To enable classmate connections, direct messaging, and schedule comparison.
- To show professor ratings and allow users to submit their own.
- To display Marketplace listings for notes and books within the user's school.
- To deliver push notifications when the user has opted in.
- To sync settings and data across devices.
- To diagnose crashes and improve app reliability.
- We do not use personal data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
5. Data Linked to Your Identity
The following data types are collected and linked to your account identity, as required by Apple's App Privacy nutrition label:

6. Sharing and Visibility
- Connected classmates can see schedule and availability information as intended by the compare and coordination features.
- Marketplace listings are visible to all users at the same school.
- Professor ratings are visible to all users at the same school.
- Personal notes, private day tags, and account settings are never shared with other users.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to third parties.
- We do not share data with advertisers or ad networks.
- We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect safety.
7. Marketplace
The Marketplace feature is a discovery platform for student-created notes and textbook listings. CampusGrid does not process payments, hold escrow, or facilitate any financial transaction. Buyers contact sellers through the in-app messaging feature. All payment and exchange of goods occurs entirely outside the app. CampusGrid is not a party to any transaction between users.
8. User-Generated Content
CampusGrid allows users to post Marketplace listings, professor ratings, day tag notes, and chat messages. Users are responsible for the content they submit. Content that violates our terms — including harassment, false information, or illegal material — may be removed and the account suspended. Users can report concerns by contacting support.
9. Account Deletion
Users can permanently delete their account at any time directly within the app: Profile tab → scroll to bottom → Delete Account. Deletion requires password confirmation. Upon deletion, the account, all personal data, course schedules, day tags, messages, and Marketplace listings are permanently removed. This action cannot be undone. Users may also submit a deletion request by emailing support@campusgrid.app.
10. Children's Privacy
CampusGrid is intended for college and university students aged 17 and older and is rated 17+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us immediately at support@campusgrid.app and we will delete the account and associated data promptly.
11. Third-Party Services
CampusGrid uses the following categories of third-party services:
- Authentication & Database: Supabase (user accounts, data storage, real-time sync)
- Push Notifications: Expo Push Notification service (token-based delivery only)
- Media Storage: Cloud file storage for profile photos, listing images, and chat media
- Maps & Traffic: Mapping and traffic APIs used exclusively by Smart Commute
- Crash Diagnostics: App stability and error reporting
These services may process data as necessary to provide their functionality and operate under their own privacy policies. CampusGrid does not share data with advertising networks or analytics platforms used for targeting.
12. Data Security
- All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.
- Passwords are never stored in plain text; authentication is managed by a SOC 2 compliant provider.
- Push notification tokens are stored securely and used only to deliver notifications to the token's owner.
- No system can be guaranteed completely secure. In the event of a data breach, affected users will be notified as required by applicable law.
13. Data Retention
We retain account and usage data for as long as the account is active. When an account is deleted, all associated personal data is removed from our systems. Aggregate, non-identifiable diagnostic data may be retained for app improvement purposes.
14. Your Rights and Choices
- Access: You can view your profile and data within the app at any time.
- Correction: You can update your profile, courses, and settings within the app.
- Deletion: You can delete your account and all data from within the app or by contacting us.
- Notifications: You can opt out of push notifications from the Profile tab or iOS Settings at any time.
- Location: You can revoke location access from iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → CampusGrid at any time. The app works fully without it except for Smart Commute.
- Photos: You can revoke photo library access from iOS Settings at any time.
- Data Portability: To request a copy of your data, contact us at the address below.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will provide notice within the app.
